This past weekend, the DFI team decamped to Cork for the annual SME Awards which were held in the Radisson Blu hotel in Little Island. We were delighted to be nominated in the "Under 30's" category and although we didn't win on the night, it was a great experience to meet a room full of our peers as well as established entrepreneurs who ran such a wide range of interesting companies. The event was extremely well organised by Damien Mulley of Mulley Communications and kindly sponsored by Blacknight Solutions.
The point was made on the night that SME's are the lifeblood of this economy and we all need to do everything in our power to cultivate a culture of local entrepreneurship as well as put pressure on government to remove barriers and create incentives for people to take the plunge and set up their own business. The red carpet treatment should be for local businesses who employ local people and pay the lions share of corporation tax, not the headline seeking US Multinationals who use Ireland as a tax haven.
Roll on the SME Awards 2017!
